MUCH-AWAITED GLOBAL STUDY ON SEXUAL EXPLOITATION OF CHILDREN LAUNCHED

A much-awaited global study on the sexual exploitation of children has been launched simultaneously in South Africa, Thailand and the United States.

The event in South Africa was held in Stellenbosch, near here, Thursday. South Africa recently introduced tighter immigration laws to control child trafficking.

The global civil society organization network, E-C-P-A-T International, which stands for End Child Prostitution, Child Pornography and Trafficking of Children for Sexual Purposes, will will carry out the study, wants to end Child Prostitution, Pornography and Trafficking for Sexual Purposes.

The study will focus on reporting and intervention measures for victims. E C P A T International said here Thursday that of the total number of child exploitation cases reported in South Africa in 2014/2015, 97 per cent related to child prostitution and commercial sexual exploitation.

Most of the cases were reported in the provinces of Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal.

E C P A T said conviction rates for such crimes are very low
