Sierra Leone Drops in Latest Fifa Ranking

Sierra Leone has dropped a place down in the latest ranking released by the world football governing body FIFA on Thursday.

The country is now ranked 86th in the world stage but maintained its 24th position in the continental stage.

According to statistics released by FIFA, despite Sierra Leone not playing a single match since they last played against DR Congo during the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, the country secured a total of 382 points – that is, eight points more than in the January rankings.

Despite the increase in points, the country still dropped down a place following progress made by other nations like Equatorial Guinea – who are the best movers by recording 370 points, now ranking 49th in the world.

Meanwhile, Ivory Coast leapt up in the world rankings, thanks to their success in winning the Africa Cup of Nations.

The Ivorians moved up eight places to 20th but still find themselves behind Algeria, who remains as Africa’s best-placed team in 18th position. Nations Cup runners-up Ghana moved up 12 places to 25th.

Elsewhere, world champions Germany maintained their number one ranking ahead of Argentina, Colombia, Belgium and the Netherlands.

There were no new entries into the world’s top 10.
