Smart Mobile Sponsors Cycling Association in ‘Ebola Awareness Ride’

Smart Mobile telecommunication company on Saturday sponsored the Sierra Leone National Cycling Association (NCA) to stage a one-day ‘Ebola Awareness Campaign Ride’.

The day’s ride which commenced at the company’s headquarters, Freetown Road, Lumley, attracted over 10 cyclists (male and female) and the executive members of NCA. The cyclists pedaled all the way to Calaba Town in the east-end of the city before climaxing at the point of origin (Freetown Road, Lumley).

The association’s Technical Director, Percy Nicol, said as an association it was importance for them to contribute in their own way towards the fight against the Ebola virus in the country.

He said the one-day ride did not only allow them to do an Ebola awareness campaign but also helped the cyclists to gain fitness after a long time without a competitive ride.

“This has been a long-time plan for us as an association to continue our support – in our own way as a sporting discipline – towards the Ebola fight. We are very much grateful to Smart Mobile for providing us with shirt sponsorship and refreshment for the riders,” Nicol said, adding that “we hope to continue this new found love with Smart Mobile”.

The NCA presidential hopeful revealed that Smart Mobile company could sponsor youth cyclists and also partner with the association in future activities.

Smart Mobile Public Relations and Brand Specialist, Richard Williams, said their decision to support the NCA is within their mandate and part of their corporate social responsibility, noting that they want to continue their support in helping the government fight the Ebola virus in the country.

He said: “What we are doing with the NCA will send a g message to the people out there as cycling is one sport that meets the people on their door steps, which was why we were fully in support of the association when they came knocking. This is not the first time we are contributing towards the Ebola fight as we have provided several assistance to the 34 Military Hospital and others.”

Williams used the occasion to encourage Sierra Leoneans to be part of the Smart Mobile family and “enjoy the best billing per seconds” and the best data service on offer in the country.

“Our data service is second to none and subscribers can enjoy internet browsing for a reduced rate,” the PR and Brand Specialist said.
