Antelope and Aircraft Collision at Asaba Airport: FAAN Clarifies Management

Asaba: The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) announced that it does not manage Asaba Airport, where a collision between an antelope and an Air Peace aircraft occurred.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Mrs. Obiageli Orah, clarified the situation through FAAN’s official X account @FAAN_Official. She stated that the incident did not take place at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, which is managed by FAAN. Instead, it occurred at the privately managed Asaba Airport, owned by the Delta State Government.

Orah expressed concern over some media reports that incorrectly reported the incident as happening at the Abuja airport. She urged the public and media outlets to verify information through official channels to prevent misinformation. For accurate updates and information, she advised following FAAN’s official communication channels on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and their website.

On behalf of FAAN, Orah extended sympathies to the parties involved in the collision. The incident, which took place on a Sunday, left an Air Peace aircraft grounded at the Asaba International Airport after it collided with a large antelope while taxiing on the runway. The impact reportedly decimated the animal and grounded the aircraft, leading to flight disruptions.

The Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, Michael Achimugu, had confirmed the incident via his official X account.
