Banyana Banyana, the South African national women's football team, has stepped up preparations for the 2016 Olympics with less than three months left before the start of Games in Rio de Janeiro.

As part of their preparations, Banyana Banyana will take on neighbours Zimbabwe in an international friendly at the Makhulong Stadium in Tembisa, Johannesburg, on Sunday. Zimbabwe have also qualified for the Olympics.

Banyana Banyana, who are set to prioritise results when they play Zimbabwe, go into the match on the back of a comprehensive 3-0 win over Botswana in the 2016 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier last month.

That result means Banyana will also be taking part in the African Women's Football Championship in Cameroon from Nov 19 to Dec 3, after they qualified for the tournament 5-0 on aggregate.

Positive results will boost the morale of the team ahead of Rio. However, Banyana coach Vera Pauw, says Zimbabwe will provide sterner opposition for her team.

Banyana players who cannot wait for Sunday's kick-off, are in high spirits after spending several weeks together in training camp, says Banyana player Amanda Dlamini.

It is the first time that two southern African countries have qualified for the Olympics at the same time. For the Olympics, Banyana have been drawn in Group A alongside hosts Brazil, Denmark and Iraq, while Zimbabwe will do battle with Germany, Canada and Australia in Group F
