Huambo – Political parties in the province of Huambo predicted, Thursday, the reliability of the General Population and Housing Census, for the implementation of more realistic and comprehensive public policies, with a focus on social and economic development.
In statements to ANGOP, representatives of the MPLA, UNITA and PRS called for greater rigor, responsibility and greater engagement of census agents, so that the 2024 Census can achieve the desired success.
They signaled that the reliability of the census process promotes the equitable distribution of goods and services, and strategic plans to improve the population’s living conditions.
The second secretary of the MPLA in the province of Huambo, Adérito Chimuco, said that his party has taken the lead in awareness campaigns about the 2024 Census, so that the population welcomes the census takers without any hesitation.
With the reliability of this process, according to the politician, Angola will be able to align itself with the various international
commitments and the implementation of public policies in an inclusive and sustainable manner.
In turn, the UNITA representative in Huambo, André da Silva Chitunda, said that census awareness campaigns are continuing in the communities, and he therefore asks the Government to use all available means to reach villages that are difficult to access for more inclusive work.
In his statements, the PRS secretary in Huambo, António Soliya Selende, called for greater seriousness and responsibility in the census process, so that the results are reliable and to allow for the equitable distribution of goods to the population in the country.
The politician, who praised the mechanisms for introducing digital services in the 2024 Census, promised to work hard to raise awareness so that the population can adhere firmly and with greater confidence.

r Angola’ According to INE forecasts for 2024, the province of Huambo has an estimated population of two million, 830 thousand 415 inhabitants, distributed across the municipalities of Bailundo, Caála, Cachiungo, Chicala-Cholohanga, Chinjenje, Ecunha, Huambo, Londuimbali, Longonjo, Mungo and Ucuma.
The 2024 Census will be the third in the country’s history, the first having been carried out in 1970, five years before National Independence, proclaimed on 11 November 1975, while the second took place in 2014.
The General Population and Housing Census will make it possible to know precisely the number of inhabitants in the country, how many men, women, children and elderly people there are, where they live and how they live.
With this information, the country will be able to better plan the distribution of essential services for all Angolans.
