DICON to Fulfill Military and Security Demands, Says FG


Kaduna: The Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, has announced that the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) is set to meet the demands of the military and other security agencies. This declaration was made during DICON’s end-of-year celebration and Director-General’s Productivity Award ceremony in Kaduna.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, Matawalle highlighted that the recent signing of the DICON Act 2023 by President Bola Tinubu has enabled the corporation to enhance Nigeria’s defence capabilities. He emphasized the commitment of the defence ministry to reduce foreign procurements, ensuring that any military or security agency requirements are supplied by DICON. Matawalle expressed confidence in the corporation’s capacity to meet military and paramilitary needs, particularly in the production of arms and ammunition.

DICON has achieved significant milestones, including the production of 10,000 rounds of ammunition, with future goals set at producing 300 million rounds. Plans are
also in place to manufacture military equipment such as MRAPs and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs). Matawalle praised the leadership and dedication of DICON’s director-general, Maj.-Gen. Anaedi Edet, and his team.

Maj.-Gen. Edet remarked on the importance of the celebration and award ceremony, which marked the end of DICON’s 2024 activities and production year. He outlined DICON’s mandate to enhance the operational capabilities of the Nigerian Armed Forces and foster technological advancement and industrial development. Despite challenges such as funding constraints and outdated equipment, Edet affirmed DICON’s focus on securing new funding, modernizing production lines, and training its workforce.

Edet also highlighted the ‘All DICON factories must produce’ initiative, reflecting the corporation’s commitment to technological innovation and collaboration for national security. The celebration served as a call to action for employees and stakeholders, recognizing exceptional staff contributions to DICON’s suc
cesses and reaffirming the corporation’s unwavering commitment to its mandate.
