Abuja: The Tinubu Media Volunteers (TMV) has applauded the receipt of 255 tractors by the Federal Government. Mr Chukwudi Enekwechi, TMV Chairman, expressed this sentiment in a statement made available to newsmen, marking a significant move in the President Bola Tinubu administration’s Greener Hope National Agricultural Mechanisation Programme (GHAPP).
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Enekwechi highlighted that out of the 2,000 tractors the Federal Government agreed to procure from a private firm, 255 have already been delivered. This marks progress in the government’s agricultural mechanisation efforts. He also emphasized the administration’s plans to reorganise and recapitalise the Bank of Agriculture, which is seen as a pivotal step towards a transformative revolution in the agriculture sector.
Enekwechi pointed out the government’s deliberate efforts to elevate agriculture from a subsistence level to a mechanised, business-oriented sector. Such initiatives are anticipated to guarantee food security in the country. He noted that for the first time, there is a structured policy to modernize farm implements and provide adequate financing, aiming to engage youths in agriculture.
Furthermore, Enekwechi stated that these policies would help reduce food inflation, increase food production, and save Nigeria foreign currency currently spent on food importation. The TMV chairman also mentioned that the increased activities in the sector would create job opportunities, particularly for the youth.
He concluded by urging Nigerians to support the agricultural policies of the Tinubu administration, with the aim of ensuring food abundance for all citizens.
