The newly appointed Member of the Public Service Commission (PSC) of the Republic of Sierra Leone Madam Lucy Nicol Monday 23 February subscribed to the oath of office at a quiet ceremony at State House, Freetown.
The oath was administered by His Excellency the President, Dr Ernest Bai Koroma.
The president explained that the PSC has a clearly defined mandate and a great responsibility. He also pointed out that in addition to its traditional mandate the commission now has the responsibility to be fully involved in the restructuring of the entire civil service to make it more relevant and productive to the governance of the country. He described the role of civil servants in aancing governance as very critical. “The government can be efficient as the quality of the civil servants that served in that government,” he said.
President Koroma urged the new appointee to use her experience to help improve the service by making it more professional.
Subscribing to the oath of office, Madam Lucy Nicol promised to work closely with colleagues to ensure the civil service is professional and impartial. “All our actions concerning promotion transfer and recruitment, will be merit-based,” she vowed.
