More Donations Received to Fight Ebola

As government continues to double its efforts towards containing the deadly Ebola virus disease (EVD) in the country, more donations were on Tuesday 9th September made to President Ernest Bai Koroma at State House as part of contributions from public and private sector institutions toward the fight against the outbreak.

Receiving a cheque of Four Hundred Million Leones (Le 400,000,000) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Managing Director, London Mining Company (LMC), Dan Desjardins, President Koroma observed that LMC is one of the mining companies that have come in to support the fight against the disease.

Whilst presenting the cheque, Dan Desjardins registered his heartfelt sympathy to the government and people of Sierra Leone, saying that they are not running away.

This was followed by the General Manager of Sierra Minerals HoldingsVimetco, Alex Ivanov, who donated the sum of Le.367,180,000 (Three Hundred and Sixty-Seven Million, One Hundred and Eighty Thousand Leones) to fight the outbreak and also cash donation of Le.132,000,000 (One Hundred and Thirty -Two Million Leones) to the Sierra Leone Embassy in Russia. The company also donated 1,000 heavy duty Jonsson Gum Boots, 250 high visibility Jonsson bodysuits and 40 (0.5) seconds fast response infrared thermometer (non-contact) (IR Range) equivalent of Le.235,180,000.

President Koroma commended the company for joining the fight against Ebola, which he said clearly demonstrates that the company is a responsible cooperate citizen.

The Chairman of the National Commission for Democracy, Dr Abu Bakarr Kargbo donated on behalf of staff the sum of Twenty Five Million Leones (Le.25,000,000) to the President as their contribution to help halt the Ebola spread in the country. President Koroma lauded the commission for the mobilization of ten percent (10%) each from the August salaries of staff to make a meaningful contribution towards the eradication of Ebola in Sierra Leone.

He said that the greater aspect of Ebola is not so much medical but social mobilization as government has to get people to know that they should abide by what is being recommended by health workers until the country returns to normal social and cultural interactions.

Presenting the donation to President Koroma, Chairman NCD, Dr Kargbo commended President Koroma for the good leadership and steadfastness in dealing with the Ebola epidemic in Sierra Leone, and expressed hope that with the leadership of President Koroma government will surely overcome the disease.

On behalf of the AMR Gold, Ahmed Kanu presented a cheque for the sum of Ten Million Leones (Le.10,000,000) to President Koroma as part of his company’s contribution towards the elimination of the disease, whilst the Secretary of the Chamber of Mines, Ibrahim Sorie Kamara also made a donation of Twenty Five Million Leones (Le 25,000,000) as their help towards the national effort to contain the outbreak.

As part of their effort to eradicate the disease, the Blue Horizon (SL) Limited representative, Des Congdon, donated the sum of Twenty Five Million Leones (Le.25,000,000) to President Koroma at State House.

Furthermore, Joseph Kowai of Allotropes Diamond Company presented cash donation of Ten Thousand United States Dollars ($ 10,000) to President Koroma as his company’s contribution to the fight against the virus. Timothy Bangura of Golden Saints Resources made a donation of Twenty Five Million Leones (Le.25,000,000) to help in the national anti-Ebola campaign, and Lewis Sheriff of SocFin Agricultural Company contributed Sixty Million Leones (Le.60,000,000) geared towards the national Ebola response.

Led by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mrs. Ebun Strasser-King, Dr Adonis Aboud donated a Cardio-Sonogram machine to beef up the health sector, amidst the current health crisis.

Amadu Mansaray of Sierra Diamonds presented Twenty Five Million Leones (Le25, 000,000) as part of their contribution to the Ebola war.

The Orthodox Mission in Sierra Leoneled by Rev. Dr Themistoclese Adamopoulo donated Twenty Million Leones (Le.20,000,000) as part of their contribution to the war on Ebola. They also donated assorted medical supplies to help contain the outbreak.

President Koroma expressed government’s profound gratitude and appreciation for the timely interventions made by all contributors to the national fight against Ebola.
