Sierra Leone Soldier With Ebola Not Member of Amisom Battalion

A Sierra Leone soldier who tested positive for Ebola had no contact with and is not a member of a battalion that is waiting to be deployed to Somalia as part of the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) force, the Associated Press reported Tuesday (October 14th).

“This one case has no contact absolutely with the 850 troops on standby,” said Abdulai Bayraytay, spokesperson for Sierra Leone’s Ministry of Information.

Concern has arisen over the deployment of the soldiers after news reports said a soldier with the battalion had tested positive for Ebola.

Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to Ethiopia Osman Keh Kamara said last week that the troops have been in isolation at their pre-deployment camp for the past four months, and have been screened and cleared of the Ebola virus.
