Sierra Leoneans in Italy Join the Fight Against Ebola

The Association of Sierra Leoneans in Italy has donated two Ambulances and Assorted Medical items in the fight against the Ebola Virus Disease.

Making the presentation on behalf of the Association, Mr. Davidson Kuyateh said the gesture was made available through contributions by Sierra Leoneans in Milan and their friends in Brianza to compliment government’s effort in the fight to contain the disease.

Sierra Leoneans in Milan and their friends in Brianza, Mr.Kayateh said made the donation in response to the clarion call of President Koroma for international assistance. The gesture he said also aimed at demonstrating their patriotism and solidarity as Sierra Leoneans.

The items he said include two ambulances, medical supplies, assorted medical equipment, hospital beds and wheel chairs, adding that the donors also pledged to send spare parts for the sustainability of the Ambulances.

Making his statement, the Director of the Office of the Diaspora, State House, Mr. Musa Kallay Conteh noted that the Association has demonstrated patriotism by responding to the clarion call of the President, hoping that others would emulate their sense of belonging.

He said it is the responsibility of Sierra Leoneans abroad to join the fight by complimenting government’s effort noting the provision and investment made by government in providing a conducive environment for its citizens in the diaspora.

Receiving the items on behalf of the Ministry and the government, the Director of Support Services, Ministry of Health and Sanitation, Henry Dabo described the donation as an invaluable treasure, adding that the gift is timely and never too small in the fight against the Ebola.

“We have beginning to see success stories of being together as one in the fight to contain the disease”, opined Mr. Dabo.

He thanked the Association and their friends in Brianza for the gesture and assured them of the judicious use of the items.

Symbolic presentation of the donated items at the Central Medical Stores at New England in Freetown formed high point of the ceremony.
