Sierra Leone’s Chief of Defense Staff Visits Sierra Leone Troops in Somalia

The Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) of Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces, Brigadier General Samuel Omar Williams arrived in Mogadishu for his first visit to Somalia on Saturday (May 31). He was received by the AMISOM Force Commander, Lieutenant General Silas Ntigurirwa, as well as other senior officials, and later met with Ambassador Mahamat Saleh Annadif, the Special Representative of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission and General Ntigurirwa as well as AMISOM Deputy Force Commander in charge of Operations, Major General Godfrey Muheesi, and the Kismayo Sector Commander Brigadier General T.R Allieu.

The Sierra Leone contingent to AMISOM is based in Kismayo along with Burundian and Kenyan troops. Sierra Leone joined AMISOM in 2010. Ambassador Annadif said General Williams visit provided an immense morale boost to the troops of the Republic of Sierra Leone under AMISOM. He asked the General to extend his thanks on behalf of AMISOM to the government and the people of Sierra Leone. He said “we want the people of Sierra Leone to know that we as AMISOM are grateful for their sacrifice to the success of this mission. The troops are highly skilled and disciplined, and their country has lived and managed through a similar struggle, which gives us confidence that success will be achieved in Somalia too.”
