‘We Must Put a Closure to This Fight’- Says President Koroma

On the 25th September, 2014 President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma while addressing contributors in the fight against the Ebola at State House said that as the government exerts efforts to contain the virus, we must endeavour to put a closure to this fight.

President Koroma in acknowledging the efforts of Sierra Leoneans and well wishers entreated them that as the country aspire to eradicate the Ebola menace, “we must put the transmission to a halt” he said. President Koroma said he was hearten with the kind of efforts and responsibilities Sierra Leoneans have demonstrated in the fight against Ebola as the effects and severity of the outbreak have been felt by each and everyone in society.

“Ebola has affected all of us, and the socio-economic effects on the economy.” President Koroma noted. With this, President Koroma underscored the need for an effective collaboration to enhance a formidable force to win the fight against Ebola.

Led by the Minister of Water Resources Momodu Maligie on behalf of China Overseas Construction Group, a Chinese construction, power and estate project company, made a cheque donation of One Hundred Thousand United States Dollars (Le 100,000) as part of its contribution in the fight against Ebola.

The CGC Overseas construction company has not been fully involved in any activity in the country. Presenting the cheque on behalf of the company, Mr Alie Forna said that they want to be side by side with the efforts of the government by showing solidarity with a modest contribution to halt the spread of the virus.

In response, President Koroma noted that the contribution will be a big boost to the fight especially so when the company has not been fully involved in any project or activity.

As the agriculture sector being one of the hard hit sectors in the country, Dr Joseph Sam Sesay, Minister of Agriculture Forestry and Food Security together with the agribusiness private sector key players contributed both cash and agricultural produce such as palm oil, rice, pineapples as their own way of helping the fight against the Ebola outbreak.

The assorted items are worth to the tune of Eight Hundred and Seventy-Eight Millions, Two Hundred Thousand Leones. President Koroma noted that is a responsibility of all Sierra Leoneans and furthered that the items will be of immense help to quarantined homes and treatment centres across the country.

The institute of chartered accountants in Sierra Leone (ICASL), and the National Public Procurement Authority (NPPA) made cheque donations of Thirty Million Leones (Le 30,000,000) and Twenty-Five Million Leones (25,000,000) respectively. Whilst commending the leadership and efforts of government, the President of ICASL Mr. Kebbe A. Kourouma pledged their commitment as a share of meeting the obligation to contribute to a good cause. The Board Direcor of NPPA Joseph Yather Konteh said that in response to the clarion call of President Koroma together the country will succeed.
