The Unemployed Youth Association of Nigeria (UYAN) has urged the Federal Government to allocate more funds to National Directorate of Employment (NDE) to enable it train more unemployed youths in the country.
President of UYAN, Mr Casmir Irekamba made the appeal when he led a delegation to pay a partnership visit on the Director-General of the NDE, Malam Abubakar Nuhu, in his office on Friday.
Irekamba said in a statement on Saturday that the visit was to seek the collaboration of NDE in the empowerment and training of unemployed youths across the country, on different skills.
“Youth unemployment is critical and crucial in Nigeria presently, therefore, the federal government should pay more attention to strengthen and allocate more fund to NDE since the youths are prime beneficiaries of their mandate,” he said.
Irekamba, while seeking the collaboration of the NDE, urged its leadership to accommodate unemployed youths in the 36 States of the country and the FCT, in its various training programmes.
Responding, the NDE boss granted the request of UYAN president to train unemployed youth across the country on different skills, saying that it would help in reducing youth unemployment rate.
Nuhu noted that the scheme was aimed at impacting skills on unemployed youth in order to enable them become skilled and proficient enough to earn a living and contribute positively towards the economic growth of the country.
“This contribution can be done either as self-employed or wage employed.
“In a rapidly changing world, it is crucial that we invest in our youths and providing them with the necessary tools and opportunities to thrive and succeed,” he said
According to Nuhu, the partnership and collaboration between NDE and UYAN on the training and empowerment of unemployed youths will commence immediately.
He congratulated Irekamba on his victory at the association’s election on Nov. 26, and urged him to enlighten and conscientise the youths on good behaviour and character to make use of the advantages of the training and empowerment programme.
On his part, Irekamba assured that the association would monitor and supervise the training and empowerment programme to ensure that the desired results were achieved.
